Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada only 50 miles north of Las Vegas, a stunning desert park which takes you through to Lake Mead National Recreation Area and an interesting drive south to Hoover Dam.

Beautiful weather in Holland

Our stay in Alkmaar, Holland with friends brought sunny warm weather to them after a wet and cold summer. We did lots of bike riding and saw some wonderful towns, one of the most stunning is Edam which is on lots of beautiful canals and pretty gardens and window boxes full of flowers on most of the houses.

Travelling in Europe

We have been away for 2 weeks and already visited Czech, London and Holland, all beautiful and quite different in their own way. Visited Brno and Prague cities in Czech and had a weekend in Koncice which is northeast of Brno near the Polish border. One of the walks we did was zig zagging across the Czech and Polish borders all the while picking bilberries. This is the view from the bell tower in St Peter and St Paul cathedral in Brno above the town square.

Adashino Nenbutsuji

Adashino Nenbutsuji is a memorial to the destitute dead, who were laid on the hillside, but not buried, between 794 and 1868.

The memorial contains over 8000 small stone buddahs,

Kyoto a beautiful city melding the old culture with the 21st century

Tori gates at Inari Shrine in southeastern Kyoto, each gate is sponsored by a busines or a family.

Some are made from timber, while others are concrete, they continue up the hillside for 4 kilometers
